Join, Director of the Eugene V. Debs Museum, Allison Duerk as she discusses a pivotal figure in the labor movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Eugene V. Debs.

Deb’s early involvement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen (BLF) as a charter member and editor of its magazine showcased his leadership and his passion for workers' rights. This led him to the American Railway Union (ARU), where he advocated for the organization of workers by industry, emphasizing solidarity over craft divisions and later recognizing that systemic changes were necessary for unions to effectively protect workers.

His transition into the political arena, advocating for reforms that would empower labor.. Debs became a leading voice for labor rights, championing for shorter working hours, child labor restrictions, and the right to strike, leaving a lasting legacy in the fight for social justice and workers' rights.
